Global Trade in Scrap Commodities Signals Early Signs of Recovery
2020-7-23

July 23 (LTIT) –The “ISRI Global Market Recovery Series: Europe and the Americas” webinar organized by the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI) noted that the global trade of scrap commodities, impacted by Covid-19 pandemic, has just started showing signs of recovery.

Tom Bird, President, Bureau of International Recycling (BIR), noted that the body had been continuously monitoring the impacts in various countries and providing regular updates on changes to its members. The Italian scrap yards have continued to operate through extremely difficult situations, being a country hit hard by the virus spread. Meantime, the planned closure of automotive manufacturing plants in Spain is likely to drag recycling. On the other hand, pickup in automotive manufacturing in the U.K is expected to ensure more steady demand for recycled materials, he added.
